Fantasy Baseball Scoring Styles and how our Fantasy Baseball Draft Tool is utilized

What is a Points League?
A points based scoring league is a type of fantasy baseball league in which actual stats are not used but rather a value given to the stats. For example, your league may give 5 points for a home run, 1 point for a stolen base and 10 points for a win. Standings are based simply on an accumulation of points covering all statistical categories.  Our fantasy baseball draft tool handles this as described

What is a Rotisserie (Roto) league?.
A fantasy baseball rotisserie scoring league applies a value to a team's rank within a statistical category. For example, if your team leads your league in wins and there are 12 teams overall, you would receive 12 points in that category. If your teams has the fewest wins, you would receive 1 point in that category and so on. Standings are based on an accumulation of points covering all eligible categories.  Our fantasy baseball draft tool handles this as described, except for percentage categories (discussed below in the Further Details section).

A typical 5x5 Roto league would include the following categories:
Hitters - Batting Average, Runs, Home Runs, RBIs, and Stolen Bases
Pitchers - Wins, Saves, Strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP

A typical 4x4 Roto league would include the following categories:
Hitters - Batting Average, Home Runs, RBIs, and Stolen Bases
Pitchers - Wins, Saves, ERA, and WHIP

What is a Head-to-Head League?
Head-to-head is a method of fantasy baseball in which teams compete against each other on a weekly basis. These leagues may use either a points based scoring or Roto. In a points based H2H, each week's winner is determined solely by who accumulates the most fantasy points during the week. In a Roto H2H, at the end of the playing week, each of the relevant categories is awarded to one of the teams with ties recorded as ties. For example, if your team wins HR, R, RBI, W, K and ERA and loses AVG, WHIP and SB while tying in SVs, your record is 6-3-1 for the week. Standings are based on an accumulation of the weekly records.  Since H2H combines both Points and/or Roto scoring styles, we've got you covered.

Further Details
Since our fantasy baseball draft tool projections are based off of points, the question arises, how does our software account for rotisserie scoring leagues?  In a nutshell, you would apply point values to all applicable scoring categories that pertain to your league settings while applying a zero (0) to all other statistical scoring categories.

Let's take the typical 5x5 Roto league, where you can easily assign a point value to:
     Runs
     Home Runs
     RBIs
     Stolen Bases

But Batting Average is not so straight forward since it is a percentage.  You cannot assign a value to a percentage, instead assign a point value to the pieces that make up the percentage.

The formula for Batting Average is

Hits / At Bats

Solution: Assign point values to all Hits categories (Singles, Doubles, Triples & Home Runs)
Note: At Bats are part of our projections and does not have a point value

The formula for On Base Percentage is

(Hits + Walks) / (At Bats + Walks)

Solution: Assign point values to Walks and all Hits categories (Singles, Doubles, Triples & Home Runs)

The formula for Slugging Percentage is

(Singles * 1) + (Doubles * 2) + (Triples * 3) + (Home Runs * 4) / At Bats

Solution: Assign point values to all Hits categories (Singles, Doubles, Triples & Home Runs)
Note: At Bats are part of our projections and does not have a point value

The formula for ERA (Earned Run Average) is

(Earned Runs * 9) / Innings Pitched

Solution: Assign point values to Earned Runs & Innings Pitched

The formula for WHIP is

(Walks + Hits) / Innings Pitched

Solution: Assign point values to Walks, Hits Allowed & Innings Pitched
